There are three types of water?

Raw Water

Raw water is water found in the environment that has not been treated and does not have any of its minerals, ions, particles, bacteria, or parasites removed.

Working Water

Working water is water that has been treated and used for washing dishes, doing laundry, and showering.

Drinking Water

Drinking water, also known as potable water, is water that is safe to drink or use for food preparation.

Understanding Your Water Source and Solutions

You have already identified the raw water that enters your home is less than desirable. You may have lime scale buildup, smelly water, or various other reasons you contacted us about improving your water quality. To turn your raw water into “Working Water” it needs to be treated. How we treat it will depend first on if your water is from a well or if you are on city water. Whether your water supply comes from the city or a private well, a whole-house water softener is a smart idea. No matter which water supply you have, chances are you have hard water – especially here in Washington State. Well water naturally picks up minerals along its way into your home, and city water, though filtered, still contains minerals and some contaminants.

City Water

Treating City Water

Although the Environmental Protection Agency requires city water to be filtered of certain contaminants, it still contains elements that can be harmful to your home and can dry out your skin. City water is typically water that initially contains pollutants and contaminants, but it is treated on a daily basis with chlorine and fluoride to remove or reduce them. While the contaminants are reduced, city water still contains minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, and sometimes sulfur, which make the water hard.

Over the past 25 years of experience in Washington State, we recommend the following systems to treat your raw city water.

Well Water

Treating Well Water

With a private well, your water comes directly out of the ground. The groundwater is naturally filtered through the earth’s surface as it runs into your well, but it also picks up minerals and contaminants along the way. As your water runs through the ground, it can potentially interact with dangerous contaminants like pesticides and fertilizers. The same minerals found in city water can be found in well water, causing you to have the same issues with hard water. Even if your well water doesn’t taste or smell bad, it can still be negatively affecting your plumbing and appliances with mineral buildup.

Some FAQs

  • How does a water softener work?

The difference between softened water versus hard water is a significant one that you can see immediately. Water softeners are one of the best home water treatment systems. Your skin will no longer have a film on it after you shower or bathe. Soaps or detergents will go further and produce more lather. Over time, you will see less soap scum on shower tiles and less staining around water faucets.

  • How does a reverse osmosis water filtration system work?

Reverse osmosis sometimes referred to as hyper-filtration, is the process of removing water impurities by forcing the water through a semi-permeable membrane. Naturally, liquids will flow from the direction of the diluted solution to the concentrated (osmosis). A reverse osmosis water system will allow for the removal of impurities such as salts and other molecules.

  • Why Get a Water Test

A serious question that concerns many families today is whether or not to have your water tested. Your families water should be safe to drink and acceptable for all other household uses.
